Industrializing Reforestation
SeedPods seeks to convert tree planting from a manual craft into an industrial process. Rather than scattering seed, we aim to deploy standardized tree-planting projectiles carrying established seedlings, enabling planting at scale while maintaining control over early-stage survival and placement.
Containerized growth as a supply strategy
We aim to develop containerized growth systems that produce uniform, hardened seedlings ready for field deployment. The container approach is intended to create predictable supply chains and higher baseline survival rates, but at present our work focuses on validating the concept and planning the logistics required to scale.
Precision deployment by drone
We have built and field-tested launchable SeedPod projectiles and the drone platforms to deploy them. Current activity is focused on iterative planting trials to validate penetration, anchoring and seedling survival under real conditions; these tests inform both hardware design and operational procedures.
Forests designed with software
Our forest-design software generates planting patterns and drone flight paths derived from ecological distributions and site-specific constraints. The software is already used to simulate deployments and to generate mission plans; continued development will refine ecological models and automate the translation from design to flight instructions.
Project stage and ambition
SeedPods is at a prototype and trial stage: we have working projectiles, drone demonstrators, simulation software and a deployment plan. We aim to move from tested prototypes to a repeatable system that industrializes seedling production, mission planning and precision planting — enabling large-scale restoration with predictable outcomes.
